In 1960, Lewis Ganson and Dai Vernon published a guidebook called More Inner Secrets of Card Magic. One of the tricks in the book is called The Trick That Cannot Be Explained. The name is due to the fact that the magician, Dai Vernon, could not explain to the writer, Lewis Ganson, the secret of the trick because it changes with each performance.

Actually, the secret is a special approach and philosophy on card tricks and magic. The work questions the whole concept of magic as a considered and practised performance, as it is largely based on luck and the magician’s ability to react to emerging events. The magician hopes for some lucky coincidences during the performance, and when a suitable one comes along, he claims that this is exactly the trick he set out to do in the first place. The secret, therefore, is that the magician makes a coincidence seem pre-planned.

In the performance, Miika Pelkonen only performs The Trick That Cannot Be Explained to one person at a time, but other viewers can watch the trick from the side. The person participating in the trick is asked to sit at a table opposite the magician.

Miika Pelkonen is a multiple Finnish Champion of Magic and the European Champion of Card Magic.
