What is a bucket list? A list of lists. A list of our desires. A list of things we dream of doing, here and now, before we die. Appear in a music video, have a near-death experience, perform a sleight of hand, experience what it is like to be a mermaid, go on a round-the-world trip…

Stereo Akt’s Imre Vass and Tamara Vadas heard about the ‘bucket list’ phenomenon a few months ago. They decided to choose some for themselves, and started trying to fulfil them – and figure out why they had chosen their particular ‘bucket list’ dreams. However, audience participation is required to help them complete some of the items on their list…

Their particular desires, and the secrets from the past which are their inspiration, come to life on stage and film within the dream factory of the Martin Boross-directed STEREO Akt: BEFORE YOU DIE, in which the creative world of imagination meets the reality of contemporary life.
This interactive performance won the FÜGE (Függetlenül Egymással - Independently Together) association’s TITÁNium Titanium Talent Search Platform main prize (shared award) in spring 2014.

STEREO Akt
In any STEREO Akt production the performance is an event, the viewer is a participant, and the essence of the event is the encounter between the reality of the viewer and the imagination of the creator. The audience is invited not just to view the performance, but to take an active or passive role in it, on a voluntary basis. The essence of STEREO Akt performances (which have taken place in site-specific locations as well as in more conventional theatre environments) is borne in the – often silent – dialogue between the audience and the performers.

STEREO Akt was founded by theatre director Martin Boross and producer Anikó Rácz in the spring of 2013, as an ongoing cooperation. Together they have developed a light and simple approach to theatre creation, working with appropriate teams and the most open partners for each production. One characteristic of this cooperation is that both artistic and production preparation, and management and promotion of a project, are developed in parallel.

The theatre makers of STEREO Akt often seek connections with local communities, and in 2013 about 60 volunteers and 40 artists participated in STEREO Akt projects.

Martin Boross is a director, dramaturge and performer. He has been directing event-based theatre performances since 2011, experimenting with unconventional positioning and participation of audiences. Although varying in theme and form, the approach of Borross’ productions show similarities, always starting from the question of ‘what will happen to the viewer’. This is the reason why dramatic roles in his productions, such as a postman, a member of a village community, an escaping tourist or a witness, are often given to the audience. He is interested in interaction as a dramaturgical technique, necessary for the deep and intensive level of perception.
