I will wait for you

„There is something very beautiful about ’not yet’.” – Arno Schuitemaker

To create his most personal work to date, Arno Schuitemaker took the elusive nature of love as his source of inspiration.

From beginning to end, I will wait for you develops in one seamless flow, ever-changing as it goes on – and on. The performers surrender themselves to their movements, on their own yet continously connected. Initially, the twilight of darkness and dim lights evokes only vague contours of their bodies. An incremental buildup that delays gratification, keeps them and the audience engaged in a perpetual becoming, making all logical sense of time evaporate. Escalating in intensity, slowly but surely, I will wait for you grows into a deeply visceral experience, a trance that lingers long after the performance is over.

About Arno Schuitemaker:
His creations, including acclaimed works such as The Fifteen Project | DUET, WHILE WE STRIVE, Together_till the end and I will wait for you, have been presented at renowned contemporary dance festivals and theaters in over 15 countries across Europe, and beyond.

Stripping them down to their most essentials, Arno Schuitemaker creates his highly physical and conceptual performances by using the body, movement, music, light and space as his enabling elements. Each performance shapes a unique empathetic relationship between the audience and the performers. His perception-based works are immersive and mesmerizing, shedding new lights on notions as rhythm, repetition and endurance.

Tanz magazine has ranked Arno Schuitemaker as being “one of the promising choreographers” in their yearbook 2017 and Dance Europe has mentioned him being “one of the leading dance makers in The Netherlands”. He is a winner of the Dioraphte Encouragement Award and the 2nd jury prize at [re]connaissance 2016. He was also selected for the Aerowaves Priority List and by the European Dancehouse Network as a modul-dance artist.
