dunaPart - Platform of Contemporary Hungarian Performing Arts

Those who have registered on the website of the platform, www.dunapart.net, can watch the performances with their passes in Trafó free of charge (except Company Pál Frenák).

Hungary's two devoted initiators of international artistic collaborations, Trafó - House of Contemporary Arts and Krétakör are organising a platform for contemporary Hungarian performing arts between the 13th and 17th November 2008, entitled “dunaPart”. The objective of the platform is to present the outstanding representatives of the independent Hungarian performing arts scene, to help them become part of the international community and to initiate international networking. You will have the opportunity to see the performances in their original environments with English subtitles.

Based on the suggestions of an advisory council, by widening the scope of genres and geographical borders, the organizers put together a very complex program. We will present some 25 performances within four days at various venues, mostly theatre and dance shows, but you will also have the chance to see numerous experiments which are crossing these borders. The performances will follow one another from Thursday afternoon until Sunday night. We also added a bonus day on the 17th (Monday), when those who are interested will have the chance to see the work-in-progress of the reorganised Krétakör Company.

The participating companies have already been selected. This platform is going to be the first event of its kind in Hungary and we arranged the program so that it would cover the whole contemporary Hungarian performing arts scene, even if this means that you will have to choose between performances running parallel to each other. We will use labels in the future to help you find your way around the different genres and plan your personal routes.

Theatre and dance performances will receive equal emphasis. Besides performers who have already received international recognition, like Béla Pintér and Pál Frenák, we will introduce the significant creative artists of the Hungarian fringe (like Bladder Circus, Artus, or Collective of Natural Disasters), and will also offer an insight into the work-in-progress of newly established and re-established companies (Krétakör, companies of Viktor Bodó and Csaba Horváth).

We consider it especially important to present the works of emerging talents like dancers Bea Gold, Melinda Virág and Anna Réti and companies like HoppArt and Kompánia. We also have some unique features in store: Baltazar Theatre, the company that works with mentally disabled actors, Frankenstein Project, a show directed by Kornél Mundruczó, who’s won the critics’ award at the Cannes Film Festival this year, and the production by the TÁP theatre company, which pays tribute to Péter Halász, the recently deceased major figure of Hungarian independent theatre.

We will be holding professional discussions during the late morning hours at the dunaPart club, where in the evenings you will have the chance to meet the participating artists while enjoying special music events.

We will also recommend you a selection of offprogrammes to broaden professional horizons.

You can see the daily breakdown of the participating artists on our website www.dunapart.net.
