UH Fest returns at the beginning of October, with performances by international and local  artists in various clubs and venues across Budapest. As well as more than 40 concerts, the programme will be accompanied by lectures, workshops and talks.

During the first days of October UH Fest returns with international and local live performances across various clubs and venues of Budapest. Apart from more than 40 concerts, lectures, workshops and talks will accompany the main programme. On the festivals’s closing day Italian minimalist percussionist Andrea Belfi, Korean cello improvisor Okkyung Lee, Canadian ritual ambient master Kara-Lis Coverdale, and legendary Italian cultic duo My Cat Is An Alien will perform at Trafó. 

Over the years Andrea Belfi has built a sound-world that artfully combines a modest drum set-up with an equally concise electronics component. He has searched long to produce and refine the acoustic timbres of his music, but has now reached a certain point of fulfilment, courtesy of his Saari drum-kit from Finland. Melded seamlessly with the acoustic elements is a Nord modular and sampler. On Ore, Belfi attains a masterful synthesis of these two sonic realms.
Belfi has gained a reputation for his energetic and charismatic performances, both as a solo musician and within numerous collaborations. 2016 saw him tour with Nonkeen, the German three-piece band headed by Nils Frahm. Belfi became an instant highlight at London’s Barbican Centre, lighting the stage with an impressive and explosive drum solo that became one of the most memorable moments from the evening.
 
Okkyung Lee, a New York-based artist and South Korea native, has created a body of work blurring genre boundaries through collaborations and compositions while pushing the limitation of contemporary cello performance techniques. Her music draws from noise and extended techniques, jazz, Western classical, and Korean traditional and popular music.
 
Since moving to New York in 2000, She has released more than 20 albums including the latest solo record Ghil produced by Lasse Marhaug on EditionsMego/Ideologic OrganNoisy Love Songs (for George Dyer) on Tzadik.
She has performed and recorded with numerous artists from wide ranges such as Laurie AndersonDavid BehrmanMark FellDouglas GordonJenny HvalVijay IyerChristian MarclayIkue MoriLawrence D “Butch” MorrisMarina RosenfeldJim o’RourkeEvan ParkerWadada Leo Smith, C Spencer Yeh and John Zorn to name just a few.
In her day job, Kara-Lis Coverdale plays organ at the St John Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church in Montreal. A squat little building with a congregation of fewer than 100, it hosts coffee mornings and dinner dances as well as sermons, and Coverdale is the picture of propriety when conducting its choir. But like some moonlighting superhero, she is also one of North America’s most exciting young composers, making music that picks apart violence and digital alienation – where ecstatic ambient passages are menaced with noise and glossy electronic chirps.
As well as performing at the Barbican in London with the electronic musician and sound artist Tim Hecker, and collaborating with experimental producer Lee Bannon, Coverdale has made three solo records. This year’s Aftertouches is about “the post-body world, this removal of physicality”, while her 2014 album A 480plays out this tension, too: it features physical scores you can print off to perform, but they’re made up of overlapping file names rather than staves.

My Cat Is An Alien is the outsider duo of experimental instantaneous composers and intermedia artists formed by brothers Maurizio and Roberto Opalio in early 1998 in Torino, Italy, before moving in a remote and secret region of the Western Alps. MCIAA offer a live shamanic, unique audiovisual performance, accompanied by Roberto Opalio's “cinematic poetry” films. MCIAA’s highly innovative and massive body of work earned them the cover of The Wire magazine. More than 200 records have been released by the most prestigious avant-garde labels worldwide. MCIAA take part to renowned international music festivals and museum exhibitions, among which "Sonic Youth etc.: Sensational Fix" (2008-2012). They collaborate with vanguard artists like Thurston Moore, Keiji Haino, Jim O'Rourke, Mats Gustafsson, Christian Marclay, among many others. In May 2017 MCIAA opened Xavier Veilhan's project "Studio Venezia" for the French Pavilion at 57th Venice Art Biennale.
